Frequently Asked Questions

At this present time, Healthfront Doctors do not offer vaccinations under the National Immunisation Program (NIP) Schedule at this clinic. We hope to offer this service within the next few months. However, the doctors are able to administer any vaccinations that patients have privately purchased from a pharmacy.

Yes, the doctors offer bulk-billed appointments for all Medicare cardholders. Private fees apply to all other consultations, including those for non-Medicare and overseas patients

It’s completely understandable to be concerned when your child has flu-like symptoms.  A telehealth consultation can be offered first, or they may be asked to take precautions like wearing a mask in the clinic.  The doctors understand that wearing a mask can be difficult for young children. For this reason, they only ask them to wear one if it is appropriate and they are able to do so comfortably.

For your first visit, more complex issues, developmental concerns, mental health discussions, or if you have multiple things to discuss, please ensure to book a long appointment.

A fever is a normal sign that your child’s body is fighting an infection. While the number on the thermometer is a helpful guide, it needs to be viewed in context of the child’s other signs and symptoms. Please seek urgent medical advice or go to the nearest hospital emergency if your baby (under 3 months) has a fever over 37.5°C. For older children with a fever, an appointment with your doctor is recommended so that a thorough assessment can be conducted.

Most coughs and colds in children are caused by viruses, and antibiotics are not effective for these. Furthermore, overusing antibiotics can lead to antibiotic resistance. However, it is important that a full examination is completed of your child to determine whether they may have a bacterial infection which may require antibiotics.

It’s very common for young children to get 6-10 viral infections (like colds) per year, especially during their first year in a group care setting. While it can be stressful, it is usually a normal part of their immune system developing. If you are concerned, please speak with your doctor so that this can be more thoroughly assessed.

If you or your GP feel your child needs to see a specialist (like a paediatrician, allergist, or cardiologist), your GP will write a referral letter. Please make sure you have a valid referral from your GP before your specialist appointment as you will need this document to be eligible for your Medicare rebate.

The first step is to book a longer consultation with your GP to discuss your concerns in detail. Your GP can assess the situation, provide initial advice, and develop a Mental Health Care Plan if appropriate, which provides Medicare rebates for sessions with a psychologist.  A referral to a paediatrician may also be recommended.

For medical emergencies, please call Triple Zero (000) or go to the nearest hospital emergency department.
