Healthcare From the Comfort of Home

Telehealth has become an essential part of modern healthcare, offering numerous benefits that significantly improve access, convenience, and the quality of care for patients.

To ensure better quality of care, video consultations will be prioritised.

Services that may be provided this way include:

  • Health advice for some common health conditions
  • Discussion of patient results and reports
  • Electronic scripts (eScripts)
  • Specialist or allied health referral letters
  • Pathology request forms
  • Imaging referrals
  • Medical certificates for work or university
  • Mental health consultations

Please be aware that telehealth consults limit the scope for physical examination.  For any condition where a hands-on assessment is necessary for an accurate diagnosis, your doctor may advise you to present for an in-person visit.

Telehealth is not a substitute for emergency services. Anyone experiencing a life-threatening condition should seek immediate in-person medical attention.

Frequently Asked Questions

A telehealth appointment is a medical consultation with your doctor conducted over the phone or a video call, rather than in person. Video consultations will be prioritised over phone consultations to provide better quality of care.

The doctors offer bulk-billed telehealth and video consultations to their patients who have an existing clinical relationship with them or at a Healthfront Doctors location.

This includes:

Patients who have had a face-to-face consultation with one of the doctors in the past 12 months.

Patients who have had a face-to-face consultation at a Healthfront Doctors location in the past 12 months.

If the above criteria are not met, then there are certain exemptions for patients to still receive a bulk-billed appointment. These include if a patient is:

  • experiencing homelessness
  • under 12 months of age
  • in a natural disaster area
  • needing mental health planning and treatment services
  • requiring urgent after-hours services in unsociable hours
  • receiving blood borne viruses, sexual or reproductive health consultations

If you do not meet the eligibility criteria for a Medicare rebate, you can request a privately billed telehealth consultation. Please note that these appointments do not receive a Medicare rebate. To arrange this or to address any concerns, please contact Healthfront Doctors directly.

Telehealth offers convenience and accessibility. It can save you time and travel costs, reduce the risk of spreading illness (like flu or COVID-19), and allow you to see your regular GP even if you are unable to come to the clinic.

You can typically book a telehealth appointment in the same way you would a regular one – online through the Healthfront Doctors website, or by calling Healthfront Doctors directly on (02) 9173 7288.  You can also book via the HotDoc App.

For a video call, you will need a device with a screen, camera, and microphone (like a smartphone, tablet, or computer). You also need a stable internet connection. If you are unable to access these items, the telehealth consultation can be completed over the phone.

Find a quiet, private space where you won’t be disturbed. Make sure your device is charged if you will be using your phone/tablet, or that your internet connection is working if you are using your computer. Have any relevant information ready, such as a list of your symptoms, current medications, or questions for the doctor.

Yes, the goal of a video telehealth appointment is to provide the same standard of care for certain health conditions. Your GP will determine if telehealth is clinically appropriate for your needs. If a physical examination is required, they will advise you to book an in-person appointment.

Yes, your GP can issue a prescription. This can often be sent electronically to you via SMS or email (an “e-script”), which you can then take to your pharmacy. Alternatively, a paper prescription can be collected from the clinic.

Yes, the doctors can provide medical certificates and referrals during a telehealth consultation, just as they would during an in-person visit. These can be provided to you electronically or can be collected from the clinic.

For video consultations, you can use your device’s camera to show the doctor a physical issue like a rash. Please be aware that the quality of the video consultation could impact the doctor’s ability to make an accurate diagnosis.

The doctor will have your phone number on file and will attempt to call you back to complete the consultation.

Yes, the doctors will endeavour to use secure and privacy-compliant platforms for telehealth consultations.
